Which picture do you think is better for “the Wood between the Worlds”? Can you find a better one? If so, bring it to class.
Homework:

  1. (by email) Send me a summary of chapters 3 and 4 by midnight (23:59), Wednesday October 11th.
  2. Answer these questions about the story. Bring your answers to class:
    1. What happened when Digory saw Polly?
    2. Where did Digory and Polly think they were?
    3. How does Digory compare the Wood to the tunnel that connects the houses?
    4. Before they set off to explore the other pools, what do Polly and Digory do to make sure they can find their way home again?
    5. Explain how the magic rings work.
    6. What does the Queen point out to the children as she leads them out through the palace?
    7. What is “the Deplorable Word”?
    8. The Queen tells the children how she became Queen of Charn. Her words are like those of Uncle Andrew. How are they similar?
    9. What does the Queen want the children to do and why?

Writing Strategies II, Session #4: October 22nd, 2010

Today in class:

  1. Study Guide p. 5 questions 10 & 11 (about curiosity): translate the questions and write your answers.
  2. Vocabulary – study guide pages 16-18. I won’t test you on the vocabulary, but I expect you to know these words.
  3. Study Guide page 19-20, questions 1-4:  translate the questions and write your answers on looseleaf paper.
  4. We read most of chapter 3 in class today.

Homework:

  1. Study Guide page 45-7, Summary Questions: translate all the questions (1-10).
  2. Study Guide page 20-22: answer questions 5 – 14 (but NOT question 10) on separate paper (not on the Study Guide).
